斑文鸟

斑文鸟的学名 Lonchura punctulata 由林奈于1758年首次描述，属名 Lonchura 源自希腊语“lonche”（矛），可能指其喙形；种加词 punctulata 意为“具小斑点的”，直指其羽色特征。斑文鸟属雀形目（Passeriformes）梅花雀科（Estrildidae），其近缘种包括白文鸟（Lonchura striata）和黑头文鸟（Lonchura atricapilla）。分子系统发育研究（Sorenson et al., 2004）支持斑文鸟与白文鸟构成姐妹群，二者分化时间约为中新世晚期。

成鸟形态

斑文鸟雌雄羽色相似，无明显性二态。额、眼先呈栗褐色，羽端稍淡；头顶、后颈、背、肩部淡棕褐或淡栗黄色，各羽具浅色羽轴纹，形成细鳞状斑纹，此为斑文鸟得名之依据。下体颏、喉深栗褐色，胸和上腹淡棕白色，各羽具褐色羽干纹；腹中部和尾下覆羽白色，两胁淡棕白色具浅棕褐色纵纹。虹膜褐色，上嘴黑色，下嘴蓝灰色，脚铅褐色。幼鸟羽色较成鸟暗淡，腹部斑纹不明显。
