2003年回国,任中国科学院遗传与发育生物学研究所研究员、博士生导师。中国科学院“百人计划”入选者;国家杰出青年科学基金(生物材料领域)获得者;国家重大科学研究计划(973)“调控干细胞自我更新能力的分子网络研究”项目首席科学家。回国后已培养优秀博士毕业生11名,获2010年度益海嘉里优秀导师奖。

脊髓损伤修复
团队利用线性有序胶原支架负载胶原结合脑源性神经营养因子(BDNF)或神经营养因子-3(NT-3),在大鼠脊髓全横断损伤模型中促进轴突再生和部分功能恢复(Han et al., 2010; Fan et al., 2010; Liang et al., 2010)。
创面愈合与血管再生
胶原结合血管内皮生长因子(VEGF)加速糖尿病大鼠创面愈合(Yan et al., 2010);胶原结合人碱性成纤维细胞生长因子(bFGF)促进血管化和创面修复(Zhao et al., 2008; Zhao et al., 2009);胶原结合血小板衍生生长因子(PDGF-BB)加速兔缺血性溃疡愈合(Sun et al., 2007)。
骨与软骨再生
构建脱钙骨基质(DBM)支架,通过肝素交联或胶原结合骨形态发生蛋白(BMP-2),实现骨缺损的均质骨再生(Chen et al., 2007; Zhao et al., 2009)。
心肌梗死治疗
胶原靶向VEGF改善大鼠心肌梗死后的心功能(Zhang et al., 2009)。
干性基因调控
系统研究OCT4及其假基因OCT4B1、OCT4B在胚胎干细胞和肿瘤细胞中的表达、翻译调控及功能,揭示NANOGP8反转录基因在胃癌中的表达及其与肿瘤发展的关系(Wang & Dai, 2010; Zhang et al., 2006; Gao et al., 2010)。发现Nogo-66通过STAT3通路调控小鼠胚胎干细胞Nanog表达(Gao et al., 2010),mTOR参与胰岛素诱导的神经前体细胞分化(Han et al., 2008)。
