Long-Jun Wu's research primarily investigates the mechanisms of pain, synaptic plasticity, and microglial function. His work has elucidated the role of NMDA receptor subunits, such as NR2B, in neuropathic pain and inflammatory pain. He also studied the involvement of kainate receptors (GluR5) in anxiety and synaptic transmission in the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC). Additionally, Wu's research on microglia revealed that ATP-induced chemotaxis of microglial processes requires P2Y receptor-activated outward potassium currents, and that resting microglial motility is independent of synaptic plasticity.
