1993年毕业于美国洛克菲勒大学,获博士学位。
1993年至1998年在美国里加利福尼亚州立大学从事博士后研究。
1999年至今在美国耶鲁大学工作。
先后担任耶鲁大学分子细胞发育生物学助教授、副教授、美国NIH科学基金评审委员会委员、耶鲁大学职务聘任评审委员会委员、耶鲁大学研究生及本科生管理委员会委员等职务。2003年被我国国家自然基金委聘为国家自然基金评审委员会海外委员。
钟伟民博士在分子细胞发育生物学研究领域成绩斐然,他在“不对称的细胞分裂与干细胞”和“动物神经发育”方面的研究成果多次发表在Nature等国际权威杂志。
