郑家麟教授的神经毒理学实验室长期致力于揭示HIV-1相关痴呆(HAD)的发病机制,研究路线包括:神经发生、脑内单核吞噬细胞(MP)的活化、HIV病毒蛋白及其神经毒性效应,以及神经元星形胶质细胞和MP释放的趋化因子及其对脑环境的直接后果。研究显示,神经发生在成年脑中扮演重要角色,并可通过神经元损伤、体育锻炼应激而受到刺激。HIV感染和活化的MP可释放病毒蛋白和神经毒素(包括谷氨酸),损伤邻近神经元。受损神经元释放趋化因子,招募更多MP到损伤部位以修复损伤并促进神经发生,同时清除细胞碎片和病毒蛋白。然而,感染和活化的MP响应神经元信号后,会释放更多神经毒素,造成更多损伤,形成恶性循环。因此,整合神经科学、病毒学免疫学生物化学受体药理学的研究,可全面探索HAD的神经病理机制ADFASDFAF23RQ23R
